How to Choose Project use Ceramic Tiles

Unlike the home decoration, normally the project supply for ceramic tiles will be in relatively large quantity, which means the ceramic tiles supply from a same batch should be sufficiently large enough to ensure the uniformity and stability of the tile color, and to avoid the influence of color differences on project quality. Also because of the large quantity of ceramic tiles demanded in projects, usually the cost of ceramic tiles will be strictly controlled by contractors. In short, in condition of meeting the project quality requirements, it is good to choose products with lower costs. So, what should we do to choose ceramic tiles for projects?

Polished Porcelain Tiles

Now the manufacturing technique of polished porcelain tiles is very mature, thus it could come with large output, high rate of excellent products and competitive prices. Polished porcelain tiles usually are in simple and atmospheric styles, with good hardness and wear resistance which far exceeding other ceramic tiles, making them suitable for places with large foot traffic such as banks, schools, hospitals, factories, residential public areas, supermarkets, shops, etc. Polished porcelain tiles can also be used for stair steps and skirting boards through cutting and processing. Regular specifications include: 600*600mm, 600*1200mm, 800*800mm, 800*1600mm, 750*1500mm, etc.

Interior Wall Tiles.

Interior wall tiles are also kind of conventional project tiles, with two main types currently popular: Porcelain plate and Glazed tiles. Porcelain plate is mainly good in its’ 3% max. water absorption rate, which making them less prone to water penetration and with minimal size deviation. As for Glazed tiles, it’s in lower cost but due to its’ higher water absorption rates (10% to 12%), ceramic soft body and unrectified edging, it brings more difficulties in the tiling job.

Anti-slip floor tiles used in kitchens and bathrooms are mostly rough surface tiles or matte glazed floor tiles, with colors preferably close to the tone of wall tiles. Common specifications are 300*300mm, 400*400mm, etc.

In the tile laying process, the quality control should be focused on two points:

1. To check if any color difference in Ceramic tiles/Porcelain tiles coming from the same batch supply, this is the most intuitive and important parameter. If there is any color difference, it might not be able to pass the project acceptance.

2. To check if the flatness of the Ceramic tiles/Porcelain tiles meet the quality standard. Tiles with poor flatness would not only making the tile laying a difficult job but also resulting in a waving surface on the wall, which are usually classified as inferior project. It is strongly recommended to avoid using glazed interior wall tiles made of ceramics, as they are in very high water absorption rate (10~12%), soft body and weaker durability. Porcelain plates should be chosen as much as possible for their stable quality and ease of construction.
